Bishop Saulo is the Priest in Charge of St Martin's. He was born in a town called Arcoverde in the Northeast of Brazil.

He graduated in Literature and Portuguese Language and Theology. He did a Master’s in Mission in Birmingham and a specialization in Religious Sciences at the Methodist University in São Paulo.

He was ordained deacon in 1995 and priest in 1996 and in 2000 he went to work for the Anglican Diocese of Recife and He was also parish priest of The Mission of the Sower in Olinda. In 2002, the Primate Bishop of Brazil, Glauco Soares, invited him to work in the Missionary District of the Amazon, in the city of Belem, North of Brazil, in the Amazon rainforest area.

After 15 years in the Amazon region, he decided to come to England, his wife Ruth’s country. After a long discernment process with the House of Bishops, he resigned as bishop of the Diocese of Amazon and worked for the Southwestern Diocese as part of a Cathedral team of clergy and Theologian assessor of the Center for Theological Studies of Santa Maria.

He arrived in Colchester in 2019, where he worked as volunteer for some charities and two parishes until he came to Newham to work for the Luso-Hispanic mission in September 2022.

Father Saulo became Priest in Charge of St Martin's on 15 May 2024.
